Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller Published by: Feiwel & Friends Genre: YA, Fantasy, Adventure, Romance Length: 320 pages Goodreads Rating: 4.07* Copy: Hardcover, delivered by OwlCrate.

"There will be plenty of time for me to beat him soundly once I’ve gotten what I came for." Sent on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map—the key to a legendary treasure trove—seventeen-year-old pirate captain Alosa deliberately allows herself to be captured by her enemies, giving her the perfect opportunity to search their ship. More than a match for the ruthless pirate crew, Alosa has only one thing standing between her and the map: her captor, the unexpectedly clever and unfairly attractive first mate, Riden. But not to worry, for Alosa has a few tricks up her sleeve, and no lone pirate can stop the Daughter of the Pirate King.

So I received my March OwlCrate last week and started reading this beautiful book on Saturday night, I finished it on Tuesday night (despite having four huge University assignments due at the moment and classes and etc.

**Warning, spoilers ahead!**

This book had me on the edge of my seat so many times I could barely put it down!

Alosa

Oh my, what a main character!!! Lady Jack Sparrow is right!! I absolutely love how fierce and independent Alosa is. She is brave, powerful, mischievous and alluring! I totally guessed about her being a siren though, I guessed it the first time she hummed Riden to sleep, but I still loved this reveal! I sincerely hope that the sequel includes more information about her mother and her crew, because they seem amazing. I also really hope this book gets picked up by Hollywood because I would love to see this on the big screen! I want to see more of her in the water, changing too. I love that she is this perfect badass pirate, and also this seductress siren. She is just so deadly. She is such a fun narrator too. I love how she loves and cares for her crew and her father and Riden!!

Riden

Riden was just amazing. I can't be the only one who pictured Orlando Bloom in the beginning can I? He evolved into someone too perfect to have a face later on though haha. I have recently discovered that I am like super attracted to cocky-but-secretly-sensitive guys who become self deprecating and treat their girls like queens though so Riden was definitely my kind of guy. Again this is where a movie would come in handy coz even just imagining that smirk had me weak in the knees, I would likely swoon if I actually saw it! Riden kinda reminded me of Logan Echolls and Damon Salvatore <3 <3

I love how much he loves Draxen, despite the fact that Draxen is such an asshat! I love that even though he thinks that Alosa was controlling his mind, he still wants to help her. I love the sparks between them so much! I know some people think its kinda insta-love, but I disagree, I mean they're stuck on this ship together in the middle of the ocean for a month, they challenge each other constantly and form feelings, it makes perfect sense to me.

What I did not like

OK I adored this book, really. My only complaints are that I wish we would have gotten more about Alosa's crew, I wish we would have gotten more about her father. I mean I kinda hate him right now, but Alosa doesn't so I take it there is more to him than the oppressive-abusive father who uses his daughter for her special abilities and tortures people, but I haven't gotten to see any of that. I also think that the plot about Vordan was kinda rushed, I guess it will be explored further in the sequel, but that is a whole year away!! Also, I am super disappointed that Alosa didn't actually admit to Riden that she has feelings for him too. AND where the hell was the kiss?? I was waiting for a legit honest kiss! The only kisses we got where when they were trying to con each other, and of course the "I'm dying, but I don't blame you" kiss Riden gave her underwater. Don't get me wrong, that was really sweet. But I wanted one at the end too. A real one!

I am very hopeful about this sequel and seriously hoping that the next twelve months flies by!!

My Rating: <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
